The Highlands Recreation Department runs several programs through out the year to foster activity and fitness for our youth and adults.
Kids on the Move is an after school drop - in program (September to June) that allows kids to participate in games, sports, exercise as well as arts & crafts.
Summer Kidfest is held July through August for children ages 6-14. Nutritional Breakfast and Lunch are served. There are sports, trips, games and crafts.
Adult Indoor Soccer runs from January through March at the HHRS Gym.
Adult Open Gym Basketball runs from April through May at the HHRS Gym.
Many other programs are offered, including Middle School and High School Teen Nights at the Community Center.
Part Time Seasonal Positions
The Highlands Recreation Dept. is now accepting applications for the following Part Time Seasonal Positions: Summer Recreation Camp Counselors, Summer Food Program - Food Preps, and a Health Director. Applications are available at the Borough Hall, 42 Shore Drive or online at www.highlandsborough.org under Recreation Dept. Please return completed applications to the Borough Hall. The Highlands Recreation Committee will be having a double feature Movie Night on Wednesday, April 24th at the Community Center. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero will start at 6:00 pm and Marvel's Avengers will begin at 8:00 pm. We encourage everyone to dress as their favorite Superhero. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Salsa-Merengue Beginners Workshop for Adults
The Highlands Recreation Dept. will be offering a Salsa-Merengue Beginners Workshop for adults on Thursday, May 9th from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center. The fee is $10 per participant. Dragonfly Club - Teen Theater Improv Class
The Dragonfly Club is a bi-monthly improv group for middle school and high school aged students. This group is geared for self expression while making connections and new friends. You can develop theater skills you are most interested in which may include acting, play writing, directing while we have fun practicing warm-ups, improv games, group exercises all while learning and growing. This class is for ages 12 -17 and will take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays starting May 8th and ending July 24th from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Municipal Alliance & the Highlands Recreation Dept. will be having Teen Nights for grades 7 - 12 on Friday, May 3rd, May 17th and May 31st from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Adult Open Gym Basketball
The Recreation Dept. will be offering Adult Open Gym Basketball on Wednesday evenings from April 3rd - May 29th from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm at the Henry Hudson Regional School Gym. Kids on the Move
Kids on the Move is a Drop-In Recreation Program for Highlands children ages 5 - 12. Join and participate in a variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, Lego challenges, sketching, yoga, music, dance, and much more! The program will take place at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center and run from September 24, 2018 - June 12, 2019, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Community Center or click the link below to download the form. All participants must register with the Recreation Department in order to attend. Proof of age is required for new participants.
