March 25: Early Week Coastal Flooding Threat

Widespread moderate coastal flooding is expected in many coastal areas over the next couple days. The most significant change this forecast cycle was the issuance of a Coastal Flood Advisory for the remainder of the counties along the Delaware Bay not already covered by a Coastal Flood Warning.

Hazardous Weather: Moderate coastal flooding.

Locations affected: Widespread moderate tidal flooding along the New Jersey and Delaware Atlantic Coasts and the lower and middle portions of the Delaware Bay shore in Delaware. Spotty moderate tidal flooding along the remainder of the Delaware Bay coasts.

Timing: Widespread minor flooding is likely by this morning's high tide. The highest tide levels look likely to occur during this evening's high tide, while some spots could see tides matching that or even a tad higher on Tuesday morning. Tide levels are expected to start subsiding faster after Tuesday morning's high tide, but there may still be widespread minor flooding Tuesday evening.

Impacts: With moderate tidal flooding, widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Many roads become impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.

Confidence of occurrence: Very high (90 -100%) confidence in the region seeing widespread tidal flooding. High (80%) confidence in widespread moderate flooding.
