Skatepark Funding Update

Exciting news on the Skatepark at Snug Harbor

The Borough of Highlands is pleased to announce that the Snug Harbor Skatepark has been selected to receive a combination grant and loan by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Green Acres Program.

This funding, which totals nearly $600,000 will support the construction of the Skatepark based on the design by Spohn Ranch, presented on June 2, 2021.  This amount is sufficient to fully fund the cost of the new park.

While the borough was not awarded NJDEP Urban Parks grant, the decision is still pending for the Monmouth County Municipal Open Space Grant.  That amount of up to $250,000 would be applied to offset the low-interest (2%) loan component of the Green Acres funding package.

A decision on that grant is anticipated in December 2021.  The borough is extremely grateful to the NJDEP for making this funding available for what will certainly be a benefit to the community.
