WEATHER ALERT:  Monday, July 3, 2023

Severe thunderstorms and some localized flash flooding remain possible again this afternoon and evening. Please note that there are increasing chances for thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening as well, some of which may be severe. The details in the briefing below will focus on the threats for today.

Hazardous Weather: Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding. Tornado risk is currently low.

Locations affected: Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and northeastern Maryland.

Timing: This afternoon and evening (approximately 3-9 PM).

Impacts: Damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and large hail are possible. Excessive rainfall rates could result in localized flash flooding, especially in urban areas. The thunderstorms will be capable of producing frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Confidence on occurrence: High confidence that scattered thunderstorms will occur, but lower confidence on the specific timing and on how organized the storms will become.
